Fees & sliding scale: About this approach

I believe that everyone deserves access to good occupational therapy. I use the Green Bottle Sliding Scale Method, created by Alexis J. Cunningfolk, which is a flexible, trust-based pricing structure designed to make my services more accessible to people with different financial circumstances.

I will not ask for proof of income or means-test you. Instead, I ask you to reflect honestly on where your bottle is right now and to let me know if your situation changes significantly.

Understanding your bottle

Imagine a bottle filled with your resources money, time, energy, and stability. Some people have full bottles, consistently replenished. Others have bottles that are half-empty, cracked, or leaking due to systemic barriers, personal hardship, or financial strain. This scale asks you to consider where your bottle is right now not just your income, but your whole picture.

The scale for self-funded sessions:

A) The bottle is low: Money is genuinely difficult right now. This might include being on means-tested benefits, having a low or unpredictable income, significant debt, or facing other financial strain. £60 per session (50 mins)

B) The bottle is tipped: You are meeting your basic needs but there is little left over. Money requires careful management and paying for specialist support takes real thought and planning. £70 per session (50 mins)

C) The bottle is steady: You have a reliable income and can meet your needs without significant stress. Investing in your wellbeing is possible and does not cause lasting financial pressure. This rate reflects the true cost of the work. £90 per session (50 mins)

D) The bottle is full: You are financially comfortable and your needs are consistently met. You may have savings, assets, or a household income that affords you flexibility. Choosing this tier helps sustain access for clients whose bottles are lower. This is genuinely appreciated. £120 per session (50 mins)

E) My employer or a grant is paying for my sessions (Tailored quotes provided)

-25 mins, 90 mins and 10 min sessions also available on request

-Letters and reports are charged at £30 per hour

How it works

This is an honour system. I trust you to choose honestly. In the spirit of that trust, I ask that you let me know if your financial situation improves so that lower-rate spaces remain available for those who need them most.

A useful way to tell the difference between sacrifice and hardship: if paying for sessions means adjusting small non-essentials, cutting back on dining out, a subscription, or a treat, but does not cause lasting harm, that is a sacrifice. It may still be a meaningful investment. If paying would mean struggling with rent, food, bills, or other essentials, that is hardship. The lower tiers exist for hardship, not sacrifice.

If you would like to access the low tier, please get in touch before booking so we can have a brief conversation and confirm I have availability at that rate. There is no need to provide evidence or explain your situation in detail it is simply a chance to connect and make sure the arrangement works for both of us.

Other funding options:

If your sessions are being funded by an employer, local authority, grant, or statutory body, a separate rate applies. Please get in touch to discuss this.
